In a Real Estate rut? Energize your business with these tips.
Even the most successful agents will experience moments of feeling like “It’s so slow. What should I be doing right now?” This is totally normal and it’s important to understand that this business will always ebb and flow. After 15 years in the business, here are a few things that I do to avoid feeling stuck, and some actions I take to get back into the flow:
Control your mindset: Human instinct will be to worry yourself into narrative that you aren’t good enough, you aren’t working hard enough, maybe this isn’t for you, how did you let this happen. STOP IT! Catch those thoughts in their tracks. Remind yourself that you just need to refocus and breathe some life into your business.
Misery loves company: You’ll easily find someone else in your office to commiserate with doom and gloom. Limit these negative interactions as much as possible. If not for your sake but for your colleagues’ sake as well. It’s okay to check in with people to see if there are sales trends amongst other agents or shifts in the market. But don’t waste your valuable time getting negative with other people- it’s unproductive and harmful.
Remember to practice Real Estate: Real Estate is more than just the deal, if you are slow or have extra time, dive back into the practice of Real Estate. Go to brokers’ opens, preview properties, take a class, schedule coffee and lunch appointments with friends or clients, get your platforms updated, organize your office. Show people you are working. There is something I describe as “work karma”, and many times you will be rewarded with business opportunities by just keeping your work actions up.
Clean up your sphere: Is your list of clients updated? Are they in your holiday mailing list? Are they in your email distribution lists for newsletters etc.? Take this time to take care of your business. These are people that have already said “yes” to you and trusted you with their transaction. Keep this list updated at all times.
Reengage with clients: Many real estate coaches will tell you to pick up the phone and start making calls. If you are a great phone person and this feels organic to you- go for it! But there are other ways to increase engagement. Social media, pop-bys, holiday reach outs, client events, appreciation texts, charitable events. Be creative, show your gratitude, and do what feels authentic to you.
Look at your brand: YOUR personal brand, I mean. Do you have a personal brand? What do the consumers see when they look you up online or on social media? Use your slow time to take an honest look at your brand and make necessary changes. You should strive to have a professional looking brand that is cohesive amongst your digital and print assets. Consider outsourcing this if you can.
Talk to you broker: Is your broker available to discuss your goals? Know what YOUR production goals are for the remainder of the calendar year. Discuss these with your broker and lean on their experience as to what approach works best in a slow time. See what marketing the brokerage has planned for the next quarter and add this to your marketing and social media plan to increase your content and engagement.
You can shut your business down in a heartbeat, but in the same breath you can reenergize your business relatively quickly as well. Control your mindset to stay focused, be creative engaging with your clientele to show gratitude, and take the time to refine your personal brand.
Good things are in store for you.
